This is the original TOP CITY demo, showcasing the founding members in their earliest recordings! With only a handful of these cassette demos still in existence, it’s a real treat to have it digitized and shared here. John Howard’s soulful vocals shine throughout, complemented beautifully by Steve Hannah’s masterful keyboard work and arrangements.

TOP CITY Demo CD 1996
These 12 tracks were recorded in under 6 hours of total studio time, including the mix-down, at NAL Studios in North Vancouver. The songs presented here were recorded “live” and are all “first takes.” This is quite an accomplishment for any band, regardless of how much they’ve rehearsed!

TOP CITY Demo CD 2013
Shortly after Leslie (LJ) Mounteney and Claudio Girasole joined us on vocals, our long-time tenor player and founding member, Bruce Ward, left the band due to a family move to the Island. Finding the right replacement was challenging, but we were fortunate to have some of the area’s finest tenor players fill in over the next couple of years, including Adam Rohrlick, Ben Lockwood, and Jim Pinchin. Chef Pinchin, you should dust off that tenor more often—I’m sure PJ would love it! Our search was finally resolved when our current tenor, Jamie Hicks, joined the band. You’ve got to hear this guy play!
